The golf courses at Streamsong Resort are part of an ambitious land reclamation project in Central Florida. Described in resort brochures as being located "between Tampa and Orlando", well, that's stretching things a bit. It's actually about 30 miles south of Lakeland, on the former site of a mineral mining operation. All that mining on sandy soil makes for some very interesting land that has been passed along to course architects Tom Doak (the "Streamsong Blue" course) and the team of Coore and Crenshaw ("Streamsong Red"). The location can accurately be described as "The Middle of Nowhere", but the resulting golf courses could make it well worth the trip. Golf Magazine gave Streamsong their "2012 Best New U.S. Course You Can Play" award.
